Religion (or lack thereof): Ben’s father is a religious scholar, and not a good man. Ben is nominally Catholic but views the church as an extension of his father. His own beliefs are hard to reconcile with his father’s early abuse. Also, as a gay man, the church wouldn't be a big fan. You'll get him there at Christmas and Easter if he absolutely has to be there.

Relationship Status: A confirmed bachelor, more or less. Ben has been in love with Ric his entire life but doesn’t expect that they will ever be together.

Ben was a professor of American Literature and signed up as soon as the army started looking for a few good men (a sentiment Ben understands intimately). Being somewhat older, physically fit and having a generally cool head and positive outlook (one which has been rewarded fairly infrequently), he moved up the ranks at a reasonable pace.
Alaric doesn't know that Ben is the only person who has correctly assumed that he killed Isobel.
